Early Decision Program

As per AMCAS guidelines, applicants apply through AMCAS under the ED program and must select only one school. Please be advised that you will not be able to submit your AMCAS application as an ED applicant if more than one school is selected. If you are interested in applying as ED and you select more than one school, your application program type automatically changes to Regular MD Program instead of Early Decision.

The Early Decision (ED) Program enables applicants to select NJMS as their choice for medical school. We are committed to expediting the review process for ED applicants whose documents are reviewed immediately following receipt of all required admissions documents. Interviews are offered as early as July 1; acceptance offers begin in mid-July. We do NOT wait until October 1, which is the customary ED program deadline.

  • AMCAS application submitted by August 1st
  • Submit all other required materials (Secondary Application, Letters of Recommendation) by September 1st

NJMS has a rolling admissions process so we urge all applicants to submit their materials as early as possible.

Early Decision applicants are either admitted to the entering class, rejected, or deferred to the regular application pool for possible further consideration. Those deferred to the regular applicant pool are notified immediately and are able to then apply to other medical schools. These applicants are also reviewed again by the NJMS admissions committee later in the admissions cycle.

Early Decision MD/PhD

Prospective students interested in the Early Decision MD/PhD program at NJMS may apply simply by following these two steps:

  1. Apply through AMCAS under the Early Decision program and select NJMS as their only choice.
  2. As soon as you receive the Secondary Application for NJMS, please indicate interest in the MD/PhD program on the secondary application.

Once these two steps are completed, an applicant is automatically considered an Early Decision MD/PhD applicant. These applications will receive prompt review by both the MD and MD/PhD program committees.

If selected for an interview for the MD program, an applicant will be asked to indicate whether or not they would like to be interviewed for the MD/PhD program as well. NJMS admissions will coordinate the interview day so that an applicant may have both interviews (MD and MD/PhD) on the same day.
