Rita Shankar Shah

Rita Shankar Shah grew up in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and received a dual B.A. in Behavioral Neuroscience and Journalism/Science & Technical Writing at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. She attended St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada and completed a medical internship at Mt. Sinai-Richmond University Medical Center in Staten Island, NY. She is pursuing an Interventional Pain Management Fellowship, and aspires to build a career in academic pain. Her hobbies include cooking, writing, exploring New York City, Indian classical and folk dance, and spending time with friends and family.

My experience at Rutgers-NJMS has been very rewarding for its wide breadth of cases in the university and private practice settings, trauma exposure, and rigorous pain program. We have research opportunities in both basic and clinical anesthesia, and play an active role in teaching medical students, allowing us to practice our teaching techniques. Overall, it has been a wonderful experience where I have been able to present at numerous conferences nationwide, practice valuable procedural skills, and learn from our strong didactic program. Through various group wellness activities, our department also encourages us to build healthy relationships with each other. Each year as new residents join the program, we really make sure that it feels more and more like you are joining a large anesthesia family- not just another residency.

Minho Kwon

Minho Kwon grew up in Carmel, IN, and completed a B.S in Biology and Liberal Arts/Management at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. He attended Indiana University School of Medicine, and then completed his transitional year internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA. He will be pursuing the Acute Pain/Regional Fellowship at Johns Hopkins University in 2017. His hobbies include watching and playing basketball, snowboarding, and being a foodie.

My career at Rutgers has been very exciting thus far. Rotating at three different hospitals, I have experienced a wide range of pathologies with abundant exposure to subspecialty training. This, I feel, has prepared me well for the innovative field I am about to enter. I have also enjoyed my time here because, in addition to weekly educational sessions, there are many opportunities to pursue your career and training goals by conducting basic science and/or clinical research which has given me a very good exposure to academic medicine.
