Graduate Education

The Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry and Molecular Genetics provides an exciting, nurturing, and collegial atmosphere in which to pursue a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree in preparation for a career in research and teaching. Graduates go on to careers in basic, medical or industrial research and teaching. The program emphasizes research and students rotate through several laboratories during their first year. At the end of this year, a thesis advisor is chosen and dissertation research commences. During the first two years, students take courses in molecular and cellular genetics, biochemistry and microbial pathogenesis. Students normally enter the program after completing a bachelor's degree and fulfilling the prerequisites of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS). All full-time students receive a stipend and tuition waiver. Application forms are available on line. For more information on applying to the the DMMG PhD program, write telephone, or e-mail:
