DRCRnet Protocol M: Effect of Diabetes Education During Retinal Ophthalmology Visits on Diabetes Control

Investigator: Neelakshi Bhagat, MD, MPH

Condition: Diabetes

Status: Closed to Enrollment

This study is designed to evaluate if giving additional educational information about diabetes and diabetic eye disease during an examination of the retina can help patients better manage their diabetes. This clinical trial is sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH) through a grant to the Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network (DRCRnet).

DRCRnet Protocol R: Topical NSAIDs on Eyes with Non-Central Involved DME

Investigator: Neelakshi Bhagat, MD, MPH

Condition: Diabetic Macular Edema (DME)

Status: Closed to Enrollment

The purpose of this research is to evaluate the use of topical non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to treat diabetic macular edema. This study tests the effectiveness of NSAID eye drops compared to placebo drops in eyes with non-central involved diabetic macular edema. This clinical trial is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) through a grant to the Diabetic Retinopathy Clinical Research Network (DRCRnet).

For more information, please contact: Neelakshi Bhagat, MD, MPH at (973) 972-2032 or Catherine Fay at (973) 972-2052.

AREDS2: Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2

Investigator: Neelakshi Bhagat, MD, MPH

Condition: Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Status: Closed to Enrollment

In previously diagnosed participants with age-related macular degeneration (AMD), this clinical trial evaluates the effect of oral nutritional supplements - lutein and zeaxanthin and/or omega-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids, specifically, docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) on the development and progression of AMD. An additional goal of this study is to evaluate which concentrations of EPA and DHA are most effective in reducing the risk of progression to advanced AMD. This clinical trial is funded by the National Eye Institute.

For more information, please contact: Neelakshi Bhagat, MD, MPH at (973) 972-2032 or Catherine Fay at (973) 972-2052.

Rubeosis Trial: Use of Ranibizumab to Treat Rubeosis in Diabetics Prior to Cataract Surgery

Investigator: Neelakshi Bhagat, MD, MPH

Condition: Proliferative Diabetic Retinopathy (PDR) and Dense Cataract

Status: Closed to enrollment/ Data Analyssi Only

The purpose of this trial is to treat proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) expeditiously rather than following cataract surgery.  We expect that such treatment will also reduce the bleeding complications encountered during cataract surgery in patients with active rubeosis resulting from PDR. This study is sponsored by Genentech, Inc.

For more information, please contact: Neelakshi Bhagat, MD, MPH at (973) 972-2032 or Catherine Fay at (973) 972-2052.
