From Garden State Parkway (North or South)

 

  1. Take Exit 145 to I-280 East (stay in 3 left lanes). 
  2. Bear right at bottom of ramp onto First Street. 
  3. Proceed about half a mile to West Market Street, where First Street becomes Bergen Street. 
  4. Rutgers will be on your left side; follow parking directions below. 

From the New Jersey Turnpike (North or South) 
  1. Take Exit 15W to I-280 West To Orange/6th Street Exit. 
  2. Take the right exit ramp. 
  3. At the stop sign make a right onto Orange Street. 
  4. At the light make a right onto First Street. 
  5. Proceed about half a mile to West Market Street, where First Street becomes Bergen Street. 
  6. Rutgers will be on your left side; follow parking directions below. 

From Route 78 (East or West)
  1. Take the Garden State Parkway exit.
  2. Merge onto the Garden State Parkway North.
  3. Merge onto I-280 East via Exit 145 towards Newark/Harrison.
  4. Take the First Street exit (Exit 13) on the left toward Branch Brook Park/UMDNJ/NJIT.
  5. Turn right onto First street.
  6. First street becomes Bergen Street.
  7. End at 205 South Orange Avenue, Newark, NJ 07103 on the left side; follow parking directions below.

From New York City 
  1. Take the George Washington Bridge or the Lincoln tunnel to the New Jersey Turnpike.
  2. Leave the NJ Turnpike at Exit 15W.
  3. Follow directions from NJ Turnpike, or take the Holland Tunnel to the NJ turnpike (Exit 14) to Route 78 West, and follow the appropriate directions above.

Parking on the Newark Campus 
  • Proceed straight on Bergen Street across 12th Ave., turn left about 500 feet beyond 12th Avenue. From here, you may bear right for self-parking in parking deck #2 (hourly rates apply).

  • You may also continue straight on Bergen Street to the traffic light at South Orange Avenue. Turn left and at the first light, turn left into the University complex and metered parking in Lot #1.

Using Mass Transit 
PATH and Amtrak rail lines and New Jersey Transit buses and trains serve Penn Station in downtown Newark, about a mile from the Rutgers New Jersey Medical School campus. The #21 and #34 buses stop at the campus. Taxi service is available to and from Penn Station and Newark International Airport.
