Medical Student Rotations - 3rd Year Student Clerkship
This 2 week clerkship during the Surgery Rotation is designed for students who have a possible interest in pursuing a career in otolaryngology and for those who want more exposure to the clinical aspects of the head and neck.
OTOL 9550 – OTOLARYNGOLOGY-HEAD AND NECK SURGERY, CLERKSHIP

DURATION: 2 weeks
WHEN OFFERED: Throughout the academic year.
NUMBER OF STUDENTS PER ROTATION: 4 (max for 3rd year students)
DESCRIPTION OF ELECTIVE: The two-week selective in Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery is designed to help the 3rd year student develop clinical skills in otolaryngology in the following areas: history-taking skills related to otolaryngological disorders, learn how to perform a basic head and neck examination, learn how to manage some common otolaryngologic disorders, understand the role of the otolaryngologist in the overall care of patients, understand some of the surgical approaches to disorders of the head and neck. Students will be expected to see patients in the clinical setting and present finds to the clinical faculty and residents, attend daily hospital rounds, and assist in the operating room. This 2 week clerkship is designed for students who have a possible interest in pursuing a career in otolaryngology and for those who want more exposure to the clinical aspects of the head and neck. Students will be evaluated from feedback from the resident and attending staff based on their performance in the clinic and inpatient floors. We will use the Salmon form.
REPORTING INSTRUCTIONS: Students should contact the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery academic office at 973-972-4588 the week prior to find out where to report on the first day of the rotation.
