Program Overview

Residency | Program Description | Our Residents |

The program, which utilizes a consortium of three teaching hospitals, is ACGME approved for four years of combined training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology.  Two years of the program involve training in Anatomic Pathology, which entails autopsy pathology, cytopathology, dermatopathology, forensics, neuropathology, and surgical pathology.  Two more years are devoted to Clinical Pathology with rotations in blood bank / transfusion medicine, clinical chemistry, coagulation / special hemostasis, flow cytometry, hematology / hematopathology, immunology, microbiology, molecular diagnostics, serology, and tissue typing.   Elective subspecialty training is available to interested individuals in most areas of pathology.  Residents participate in teaching of both medical students and graduate students.  An appointment in the residency program involves rotational assignments through University Hospital-New Jersey Medical School and the affiliated institutions during the four-year training period.  The integrated program, utilizing the particular strengths of each of the hospitals, exposes the trainees to a wide variety of material, expertise, and practice settings.

TYPES AND NUMBERS OF APPOINTMENTS

The program has fourteen (14) positions, with thirteen (13) 4-year Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency positions, and one (1) ACGME accredited dermatopathology fellowship position.
