The Region 2 PHTC was funded in the autumn of 2014. It replaces the NJ Public Health Training Center (NJPHTC) established in September 2010 through August 2014 by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The Region 2 PHTC, part of a network of Public Health Training Centers across the U.S, includes NY, NJ and Puerto Rico. DPMCH is a partner in the PHTC.
The PHTC also works with the various public health organizations across the state, to further develop relevant training opportunities. These organizations include: NJ Health Officers Association, NJ Society of Public Health Educators, NJ Association of Public Health Nurse Administrators, NJ Environmental Health Association and NJ Society of Public Health Epidemiologists, and others.
Newark faculty participate in all Core Training Center Goals and Activities overseen by Newark faculty include:
- Public Health and Preventive Medicine Grand Rounds
- Lectures and workshops for public health professionals in NJ
- Medical Student 2-week rotation in local health departments
- Opportunities for MPH field work in public health.
