Gastrointestinal (GI) Cancers

Radiation therapy for the treatment of cancers of the gastrointestinal tract has evolved significantly over the past several decades and is typically utilized as part of a multimodality approach.  Examples of tumors of the gastrointestinal tract include esophageal cancers, pancreatic cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, stomach cancers, liver cancers, anal cancers, and rectal cancers.  Given the sensitivity to radiation therapy of the gastrointestinal tract, treatment of these cancers can be challenging.  As such, we use various types and techniques of radiation to try and spare normal tissues.  We also present all cancers at our bi-weekly multidisciplinary tumor board.  Our gastrointestinal oncology team’s primary concern is patient quality of life and cancer treatment and we are dedicated in the care of our patients.
