Guidelines
for the activities and organization of the faculty are found in the ByLaws of
the New Jersey Medical School (see ByLaws). They state that the faculty should
be vigilant over the design, evaluation and revision of procedures under which
the faculty operates and must meet as the Faculty organization (FO) at least
four times a year.
The
Faculty Organization works to fulfill this mission and to represent the faculty's
opinions and positions through the school's Standing Committees and the Faculty
Council (see information under Committees). The FO officers also meet periodically
with the administration. Finally, the FO creates taskforces to work on issues
identified by the faculty as important for faculty morale and the academic mission
of the school (see information under Taskforces).
The
FO makes several awards annually to promote academic excellence. "Outstanding
students", a medical student and a graduate student, and "Faculty of the year",
a clinical and a basic science faculty member, are chosen by an awards taskforce.
The
FO maintains the faculty lounge in MSB C-601, which has coffee/tea machines
and a refrigerator with a variety of milks (a nominal fee is charged), newspapers,
an internet-linked computer, telephone, and the office of the FO clerk, Ms.
Debbie Jacoby. Ms. Jacoby is there every day from about 9AM until 2PM.
The
efforts of the FO are supported by annual dues ($75.00), which are collected
in September at the beginning of the academic year.
Please
feel free to contact the FO officers, the clerk Ms. Jacoby (see Contact Us),
and members of the committees and taskforces. And come to the FO meetings.
We
are here to serve the faculty. Your input is valued.
