Admission is competitive and dependent upon the availability of openings in each program. Candidates for admission are evaluated on the basis of academic achievement, personal interviews (PhD program), recommendations from former professors, and other data documenting academic performance and experience. Honors, awards, and professional experience in a major field of specialization also are taken into consideration. Prospective students are encouraged to consult with the program director of the program in which they wish to obtain a degree before submitting an application.
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university is required. Applicants are encouraged to have completed college courses in biology, physics, general chemistry, and organic chemistry. Courses in calculus and physical chemistry are highly recommended for all PhD students with strong interests in the physiological and biochemical sciences. Master’s students intending on subsequently applying to medical or dental programs should have already satisfied any specific academic requirements (eg. calculus, general chemistry, organic chemistry, etc.) of those programs.
The record should be supported with excellent GRE scores and strong recommendations, and should indicate that the applicant is capable of performing successfully in the rigorous environment of the Graduate School. Master’s, Certificate and Non-Matriculate applicants can substitute MCAT or DAT scores for GRE scores.
Applicants should display evidence of seriousness of purpose, strong motivation to achieve a successful career in science, health care professions, industry or education, and high standards of personal conduct.

and must provide the following:
(1) Official transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate records.
(2) A personal statement defining your professional goals and outlining you would be successful in the program. A CV/resume is also recommended.
(3) Recommendations from individuals, preferably academic instructors, who have direct knowledge of the applicant's academic performance in science-related fields. PhD applicants must submit at least 3 recommendations and are encouraged to include a letter from a laboratory mentor if they have undertaken research. Applicants to the Master's and Certificate programs, or individuals applying as non-matriculates, must submit at least 2 letters, but are welcome to submit more.
(4) Standardized Test Requirements: Applicants to the PhD program (except those holding degrees of MD, DDS, DVM, DSc, or DO from accredited institutions in the United States) are required to submit general test results of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Applicants to the Master's program are required to submit test results from the general GRE, MCAT or DAT.
