Post-Doc Fellows Earn NJ Commission on Cancer Research Grants

Three NJMS post-doctoral fellows have earned New Jersey Commission on Cancer Research grants totaling more than $270,000 to continue their ground-breaking work. The fellows, Shruti Goel, PhD, Marcus Shin, PhD, and Jessica Tome-Garcia, PhD, each of whom earned $91,000 grants, are making great strides in cancer research at the NJMS/UH Cancer Center.

Executive Women of New Jersey (EWNJ) Honors NJMS Student

Violeta C. Ashby, a student at New Jersey Medical School, will be awarded a Graduate Merit Scholarship at the Executive Women of New Jersey's (EWNJ) annual Membership Celebration and Scholarship Recognition Event on Wednesday, September 19, 2012. Ashby is one of 11 women who will receive this scholarship at The Palace at Somerset Park in Somerset, NJ. The Graduate Merit Award Program was founded in 1986 to provide scholarships to women pursuing graduate level degrees in New Jersey.

Dr. Lee Reichman, founding executive director of the New Jersey Medical School Global Tuberculosis Institute, received the 2012 World Lung Health Award at this year's American Thoracic Society 2012 International Conference. This award recognizes contributions to world lung health in the area of basic or clinical research, delivery of health care, continuing education, or care of patients who suffer from lung disease.


Scholarship Memorializes NJMS Graduate

NJMS graduate and dermatology resident Carmen Castillo, MD, is the first recipient of The Douglas E. Wong, MD, '89 Endowed Scholarship, established to honor Dr. Douglas E. Wong, a well-respected dermatologist who graduated from the school in 1989 and passed away 10 years ago.
