Federal Work-Study Option

We have expanded the Summer Student Research Program to include several work-study projects. We are working with the Federal Work Study (FWS) Program and the Financial Aid Office which will enable more work-study-eligible students to obtain financial support.

STUDENT INFORMATION:

Interested students should contact Cynthia Hamlett-Robinson in the Student Financial Aid Office (ADMC 1208) to complete or update the necessary financial eligibility forms. Please note: beside financial eligibility, students must be currently enrolled in NJMS to qualify for these work-study positions.

Work study-eligible students may work a maximum of 25 hours per work @ a rate of $14.00 an hour and are paid on a bi-weekly basis through the University payroll system. If a student works 25/hrs for eight weeks, they can earn up to $2,800. This amount is taxable and will require the completion of a W-4 form.

This summer the following projects are being offered to work study-eligible students.

FACULTY MENTOR INFORMATION:

There are limited Funds available for the Annual ORSP-Summer Student Research Program (SSRP). As a result, we have been working with the Financial Aid Office to assist with additional funding.  In order to determine student eligibiity for the FWS Programs, FASFA applications must be completed prior to program application deadline.  We also encourage faculty to consider submitting projects to the FWS Progam, as funds are limited thru the ORSP-Summer Student Research Program.

Work study-eligible students can work a maximum of 25 hours per work at a rate of $14.00 an hour and paid on a bi-weekly basis. Student salary support is 75% from work study and 25% from the mentor/investigator for i.e., students will receive $2,000 from Federal Work Study (FWS) and the remaining $800 will be the responsibility of the Faculty Mentor.  Mentors are responsible for the additional 25% of salary support.

Please keep in mind that students are only paid for time spent working on their respective projects.  Students will not receive renumeration beyond the required 25 hours.

How this works: your project will be submitted as a job description to FWS and advertised to students. You will be responsible as the mentor to sign the FWS pay vouchers confirming the date, times and total hours the student worked in your lab.  Students that desire to work beyond eight weeks must obtain approval from their Mentor and the Financial Aid Office.
