Overview

Dr. John Bogden has taught nutrition, environmental health, and public health to first- and second-
year medical students for more than 40 years. He also teaches graduate students, and is Course
Director for the School of Graduate Studies course "Medical Nutrition and Disease", which he taught
in the Fall 2019 Semester for the fourth consecutive year. Dr. Bogden is also Course Director for a
popular 4th year NJMS independent study course entitled "Special Topics in Preventive Medicine";
more than 130 students have taken this course since it was first offered by Dr. Bogden in 2002.

Dr. Bogden has sponsored and mentored research projects of more than 40 undergraduate,
graduate, medical, and high school students. His research has focused on trace element and mineral
nutrition and toxicity. He is an author of more than 100 peer-reviewed articles or book chapters on this
and related topics. In 1991 he was the recipient of the ?Labcatal First Prize for Scientific Research in
the Field of Trace Elements?. Dr. Bogden has been awarded 31 grants as principal investigator to
support his research. He and Leslie Klevay, M.D., are editors of the book ?Clinical Nutrition of the
Essential Trace Elements and Minerals: The Guide for Health Professionals? (Humana Press, 2000).
He is currently a member of the editorial board of the journal Nutrition Research.
