Overview
Dr. Patel is the Section Chief of pediatric anesthesia and is well known throughout
the
institution for her clinical expertise. Dr. Patel has gained national recognition as
an
expert on neuromuscular disorders and has served on the CDC?s expert panel on Duchene
Muscular Dystrophy. Her research on preoperative anxiety and use of video games
attracted
widespread media attention with appearances on national TV and radio. She has been
the PI
of several research trials. Some have been in collaboration with her pediatric
surgical
colleagues. She has authored many peer reviewed publications and is a peer reviewer
for many journals, including the Cochrane Anesthesia Peer Review Group and grant
reviewer for the National Research Medical Council Singapore Government. Dr. Patel is
the editor in chief of the Journal of Anesthesia and Clinical Research. Over the years, she has
been appointed to several medical school and hospital committees: Committee on Faculty Affairs,
the Medical School (LCME) review preparation committee, medical school admissions interview
committee, hospital QA committee to name a few. She is the course director and QA director for
Moderate Sedation for UH and has served on the Board of Directors of UPA and AAUP Newark.
