Principles of Toxicology I  –  PHPY N5225-001

This interdisciplinary course will survey the principles of toxicology that pertain to human health. The course will first provide a historical background of toxicology, followed by a discussion of basic toxicological principles concerning absorption, distribution, elimination, and biotransformation. The impact of toxic exposure on selected target organs will then be covered, with particular emphasis on the kidney, lung, nervous system, liver, heart, skin, eye, hematological and reproductive systems. For each organ system, a representative group of prototypical toxins will be studied in depth. Material is presented using an evidence-based approach through a series of lectures. Please click here for the Fall 2021 syllabus.
