Autism Surveillance – Study Year 2002

In 2002, New Jersey Autism Study investigators implemented another cycle of ASD surveillance in the four-county New Jersey region. Using consistent ASD definitions, as well as standard ascertainment procedures, we determined ASD prevalence of 10.6 per 1,000 among 8-year old children residing in the New Jersey region. While again higher than ASD estimates from all other US sites determining prevalence by the same method, the rate of prevalence in NJ was consistent between 2000 and 2002.
