“The American Medical Women’s Association is an organization which functions at the local, national, and international level to advance women in medicine and improve women’s health. We achieve this by providing and developing leadership, advocacy, education, expertise, mentoring, and strategic alliances.”

Through the NJMS Chapter of AMWA, our mission is to advance women in medicine at NJMS and improve women's health in the greater Newark community. Events hosted by AMWA include: the Fall AMWA-MAPS Mentorship Luncheon, the annual Women in Medicine Dinner, Tabling Event for Women's History Month: Writing Thank You Cards to Influential Women, Women Faculty Photoshoot honoring Women's History Month, the Reproductive Justice Papaya Workshop co-sponsored with DVIP, and a lecture co-hosted with Out@NJMS: "What Women Want: Meeting the Healthcare Needs of WSW and LGBTQ Women." In May, we will be co-hosting a virtual interactive conference with US Air Force Flight Surgeon, Dr. Regan Stiegmann, along with the Lifestyle Medicine and Military Medicine Interest Groups. Future plans including developing a lecture series hosted by AMWA, surrounding topics such as gender bias, gender disparities in academic publications/promotion, leadership and self-advocacy skills, balancing family and career planning, and more.
