Rutgers NJMS Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association

"The mission of APAMSA is to bring together everyone interested in addressing the health challenges that affect Asian and Pacific Islander American (APIA) communities and the challenges that impact APIA providers. We are interested in directly promoting the health and well-being of the APIA community, as well as helping all health care workers who work with these communities to understand how to care for patients in a culturally sensitive manner. APAMSA provides a space for medical students to meet, socialize, and exchange experiences, by hosting seminars, discussions, panels, and fun social events throughout the year! Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS)

Register Here!

The call for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month commenced in June 1977 leading to the first ten days of May being proclaimed as Asian-Pacific Heritage Week. In 1990, George W. Bush signed a bill extending the week to a month.

The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of Japanese emigrants to the U.S. on May 7, 1843. It also marks the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.

May is now designated as a celebration of the rich culture, traditions, and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

*All events will be hosted at Rutgers NJMS and food will be served. Rooms and other information to be updated periodically*
