Welcome to the Website of the Department of Neurology at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in Newark, NJ. Our mission is to provide excellence in medical education, clinical research, patient care and community service.

Highly specialized clinical faculty provide care for patients with various neurological disorders at the Doctor’s Office Center (DOC), the Ambulatory Care Center (ACC) at University Hospital, and consultative and in-patient services at University Hospital and Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. The Department has specialized programs in Stroke, Epilepsy, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuromuscular Disorders, Headache and Pain, and Pediatric Neurology.

A residency program has been in existence for over three decades which includes both adult and pediatric neurology training, complemented by fellowship training in Stroke, Neuromuscular Disorders and Multiple Sclerosis. The Department's educational program is enhanced by volunteer faculty who contribute to the education of medical students and neurology residents.

The Department's research activities continue to expand. Clinical trials in multiple sclerosis, stroke, and neuromuscular diseases are ongoing. Basic research into disease mechanisms are performed in collaboration with the neuroscientists in the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology and Neuroscience.

The Department of Neurology continues to serve the community by participating in patient and physician education programs at the local and national levels.
