Mitchell F. Reiter, MD

Dr. Mitchell Reiter is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School and serves as Chief of the Division of Spine Surgery. He is board certified in Orthopaedic surgery and has completed a fellowship in spinal surgery. His practice consists entirely of the operative and nonoperative management of patients with spinal disorders. Dr. Reiter completed an accelerated six year combined B.S./M.D. program at the University of Miami. He then received his residency training in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Miami - Jackson Memorial Hospital, followed by a year of fellowship training in spinal surgery at Emory University in Atlanta.  He has been elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the U.S. national medical honor society.  Dr. Reiter has published journal articles and book chapters in the field of spine surgery.  His interests include adult and pediatric spinal surgery, biomechanics of spinal fixation, and he is engaged in research on reducing scar tissue formation that occurs following spinal operations.
 
Research Interests
:

   - Reducing epidural scar tissue following spinal surgery.
   - Biomechanics of spinal fixation.
   - Rheumatoid arthritis and its effects on the spine.
   - New techniques of reducing pain related to disc deterioration
   - Treatment of spinal cord injuries
 
 Practice Philosophy:
To look at each patient as a whole person and to provide a comprehensive evaluation that allows for an accurate determination of the source of their problems. Educating patients about their conditions so that they can then help make their own decisions about the various treatment options available to them.
