How to Apply:

Application Process for Rutgers-NJMS Orthopedic Surgery Residency:
NRMP Participation: The program participates in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), so applicants must register with NRMP.

  • You must submit a completed ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) application by the due date.
  • The application should include at least 3 letters of recommendation (LORs), and at least one LOR must be from a clinical orthopedist.

Residency Interviews: Interviews will be in-person at:

  • Location: 205 South Orange Ave, C Level, Newark, NJ 07103
  • Make sure you’re available to attend in person if invited.

Eligibility for Foreign Graduates:

  • Foreign graduates must meet one of the following:
    • U.S. Citizenship
    • Green Card
    • ECFMG J1 Visa sponsorship (International medical graduates often need this visa for residency programs in the U.S.).

Universal Interview Offer Day:

  • Our program does participate in Universal Interview Offer Day (recommended by the AOA—American Orthopaedic Association).
  • Interview offers will be extended, but there’s a 24-hour moratorium period on accepting interviews. This gives you time to consider and discuss options.
  • After the moratorium, you will have 48 hours to schedule your interview.
  • If you don’t respond by Thursday at 12:00 pm ET, the program may extend an invitation to another applicant.
