Global Health Alliance

GHA's mission is to provide resources, education, and international opportunities to the NJMS class about global health topics. We do this with student panels, guest lecturers, documentary discussions, and more. Last year we were able to have a former CEO of Merck come speak to us about his work developing the cure to River Blindness followed with a poster presentation by NJMS students on projects they have done internationally. In the past we have worked with other student groups to provide non credit electives, health fairs, and awareness events to the NJMS community. A main focus of our organization is to consolidate the research, travel, and summer opportunities available to NJMS students into one accessible location. We plan to have more events this year including an international healthcare symposium. Come join GHA and see what we can do!

International Surgical Health Initiative (ISHI) Club

The NJMS ISHI Club is the student chapter of the International Surgical Health Initiative (ISHI); a humanitarian non-profit organization dedicated to providing free surgical care to underserved communities around the world. ISHI was founded by two attendings at NJMS, Dr. Ziad Sifri and Dr. Asha Bale in order to address the overwhelming need for international surgical health care. The ISHI club runs a year-long non-credit elective, providing students with an opportunity to learn more about various aspects of international health and global surgery.
