Accelerated 3-Year MD Program
Rutgers New Jersey Medical School developed an Accelerated 3-Year MD Program in an effort to address the national shortage of primary care physicians and particularly the needs of the Newark community. This program allows students who have a strong interest in a primary care career to complete their MD degree in an accelerated 3-year program of study while also gaining conditional acceptance into Rutgers-sponsored primary care residency programs. Program highlights include:
- Early Clinical Immersion
- Longitudinal Primary Care Preceptorship
- Health Systems and Population Health Certificate and Experiential Program
Application to the Accelerated 3-year Primary Care MD Program is limited to students who have already been accepted to the traditional 4-year MD program at New Jersey Medical School. This program is ideal for students who have demonstrated academic excellence, clinical experiences in a primary care setting and community health or leadership experiences. Students will be required to choose one of the following primary care specialty tracks at the time of application to the accelerated program:
- Internal Medicine
- Pediatrics
- Combined Medicine/Pediatrics (Med-Peds)
