Shih Endowment
In recognition of Albert P. Shih, MD and his 26 years of outstanding service to the Department of Anesthesiology at Rutgers-NJMS, our department established in 2002 the Dr. Albert P. Shih Humanitarian Award. The award is presented every year to the senior resident who best exemplifies Dr. Shih's "unfailing primary dedication to patient care and selfless work ethic of congeniality and loyalty to his colleagues, residents, staff and institution." We were very fortunate to have presented this honor to Dr. Shih just months before his untimely death.
After his death in June 2002, Dr. Shih’s wife and family established the Albert P. Shih, MD Education Fund in his honor and memory. Through the generosity of Mrs. Emily Shih and the many family and friends who loved her late husband, contributions in excess of $50,000 were used to establish this education fund for the purpose of supporting and advancing the education of residents, fellows and students in the Department of Anesthesiology at New Jersey Medical School. Proceeds from the fund are used to instruct students in all aspects of Anesthesiology; to acquire mannequins, simulators and other equipment needed for hands-on teaching; to send residents to educational conferences; and to provide seed money for research projects.
