Who We Are

We are a coalition of physicians, fellows, residents, and graduate students underrepresented in medicine dedicated to supporting the personal and professional development needs of African American and Hispanic men receiving their graduate school training (MD, PhD, and Master's) at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School (NJMS).

Our Mission

Through role modeling and career development we encourage underrepresented minority men to excel in their career paths and promote positive changes in their academic community and community at large. Our mission is "to create, transmit and utilize knowledge to shape the future of medicine and enhance the quality of life for the people of New Jersey." In addition, we hope to increase diversity and inclusion at NJMS by:

  • Taking action to ensure the participation and presence of critical masses of underrepresented minorities within our community of students and scholars;
  • Affirming inclusion of diverse perspectives in the curriculum;
  • Supporting forums for healthy and candid discussion of pertinent issues;
  • Supporting underrepresented minorities in identifying role models and in developing professional networks.

Our Vision

Our organization strives to be a family of scholars that is centered on the personal and professional development of underrepresented graduate students, residents and faculty at NJMS. We will aim to create a cadre of mentors, each of whom will "lift as he rises", ultimately creating and maintaining a healthcare workforce that reflects the communities we serve, eliminates health disparities, and ensures health equity.
