The Tim Reynolds Family Spinal Cord Injury Center at UMDNJ

The Tim Reynolds Family Spinal Cord Injury Center was established in 2005 by Robert F. Heary, MD, professor of Neurological Surgery at UMDNJ-New Jersey Medical School. The mission of the Center is to conduct basic and translational research designed to improve the outcomes of patients following spinal cord injury. Laboratory science will focus on regenerative medicine with the potential to improve the lives of individuals who are chronically injured. As such, this facility will offer hope to over 250,000 people throughout the U.S. who live with chronic spine injury.

The Reynolds Center is one of a number of Centers affiliated with the Neurosurgery department at New Jersey Medical School. The work of the Center is greatly advanced by its location on the Newark campus of UMDNJ – the nation's largest health science university comprised of a statewide system of health sciences schools, biomedical research, health care and community service. Founded in 1970 to consolidate New Jersey’s health professions schools, UMDNJ has five campuses and a network of more than 200 affiliated healthcare and educational partners spanning the state. We touch the lives of almost every New Jersey resident every day. Our mission is both simple and inspiring – to enhance the health of all people in New Jersey through broad-based programs covering every aspect of the health sciences.

The Reynolds Center occupies 1,500 square feet in the new $110 million cancer center that opened on UMDNJ’s Newark campus in October 2006. Co-located with the Reynolds Center is the new Spinal Biomechanics Laboratory that will partner with industry leaders in the field of spinal implants to test an assortment of spine stabilizing methods with the goal of improving them.
