Application Process and Procedures

Three letters of recommendation from supervising faculty are required in support of each application. A Dean's letter, transcript and personal statement are also required. Applications are accepted from September to December. Applications are considered for the standard pediatric residency program as well as the combined programs in Pediatrics/Internal Medicine and Pediatrics/Child Neurology.

Applications are reviewed by the Program Director and the Resident Selection Committee, after which candidates are invited for interviews. Interviews are generally conducted Mondays to Fridays from November through January. Recommendations for selection are made by the Selection Committee; applicants for first-year positions are selected via the National Residency Matching Program. Applications for second or third-year positions will be considered if there are available openings.

Residents are appointed on an annual basis. Each appointee receives an individual contract which specifies his/her post-graduate level, salary and mutual obligations of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and the resident.

Rutgers New Jersey Medical School does not discriminate on the basis of sex, race, creed, color, religion, national origin, age, marital, veteran or handicapped status in admission to or employment in the educational programs and activities they operate. Minority students, residents and faculty are actively recruited.
