Overview
The Rutgers New Jersey Medical School Department of Pediatrics offers a full range of family-centered ambulatory and in-patient services ranging from well-child care to the care of children with complex or life-threatening illnesses.
We offer a full range of primary and sub-specialty care in an interdisciplinary setting. Primary care sites are located in the Doctor's Office Center. Our ambulatory services include primary care and general pediatrics. In addition, we offer both ambulatory and inpatient services in subspecialty care in allergy/immunology, pulmonology infectious diseases, adolescent and young adult medicine, cardiology, developmental and behavioral pediatrics, hematology, human, molecular and biochemical genetics, neonatology, nephrology, gastroenterology, and endocrinology.
In collaboration with the Departments of Emergency Medicine and Surgery, we offer a full service Pediatric Emergency Room that is staffed 24 hours a day by six physicians who are board certified in pediatrics and pediatric emergency medicine and trauma services.
The inpatient pediatric units include a 4-bed pediatric critical care unit, a 10-bed general pediatrics unit which are both located in the same wing of the hospital and a Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that consists of a 28-bassinet critical unit, a 24-bassinet intermediate level unit and a 24 –bassinet well-baby nursery. In collaboration with other Rutgers New Jersey Medical School departments and local clinical affiliates, we offer pediatric expertise in anesthesiology, otolaryngology, radiology and pathology, neurology, surgery, neurosurgery and oral/maxillary surgery, ophthalmology, psychiatry and neuromuscular rehabilitation, rheumatology, and urology, trauma services, plastic surgery, orthopedics, dermatology, cranial facial reconstructive surgery, behavioral health care, dentistry, as well as lead poisoning and toxicology programs.
