Marcus T. Block MD Memorial Visiting Professors

Marcus T. Block, MD was born in New York City on August 13, 1903, and moved with his family into then prosperous Newark in 1915, where he graduated from high school. He matriculated into Cornell Univeristy, receiving his BS degree in 1925. He then began medical school at the University of Kansas, transferring into the prestigious Rush Medical School of the University of Chicago, from which he received an MD in 1929.

Dr. Block found the time to regularly attend two clinics per week at the New Jersey Medical School, serving as an inspiration to our medical students for over a quarter century and to New Jersey’s first four dermatology residents, Michael Paul Bagley, Hector Wiltz, Philip J. Cohen, and Lynn K. Bickley. He served as President of the New Jersey Dermatological Society and remained active and enthusiastic until weeks before his death on August 2, 1986.
