Research in Biomedical Sciences (Masters Research Rotation) - MSBS 593A

Final report:

The report should be 3 to 5 double-spaced pages in length.  Because the rotation experience might vary from individual to individual, there is no specific required format (but see below for a common outline).  Nevertheless, all reports should include some discussion of the broader biological importance of the work and will therefore require at least several references. References should be appropriately noted in the text and listed at the end. They will generally be reviewed articles (regardless of whether they were actually read online or in print), rather than commentary web sites or Wikepedia, which should NEVER be relied upon as a definitive reference.

One suggested outline for the report:

Cover Page with your name, your mentor's name, and the title of your project.

Abstract (1 paragraph)

Introduction one page describing the background to the scientific problem, as well as the questions asked.

Materials and Method sone half to one page describing the materials used and the methods employed to carry out the experiments

Results two pages describing the results of the experiments Tables and Figures with legends are appropriate to include here

Discussion one page discussing the results and conclusions in the context of the original question(s) and prior knowledge.

References manuscripts, books and even web-based information should be listed here and properly cited in the text
