Application Process

Dermatology at the New Jersey Medical School evaluates applications for residency through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applications should include:

  • Completed ERAS application
  • Board Examination scores, USMLE Step 1 and (if available) Step 2 scores
  • Personal statement
  • Dean’s Letter
  • Appropriate letters of recommendation

We usually interview about forty outstanding candidates for our two residency slots. Interviews are typically conducted between mid-November and the end of January. The typical interview day consists of meetings with individual faculty members and residents, as well as tours of our main outpatient clinics in Newark and at the East Orange VA Hospital. Interviewees are also welcomed to join us on inpatient consultations.

Accommodations are abundant and easy to find. Our medical school campus is located within 2 miles of Newark Penn Station, and less than 5 miles from Newark International Airport. Applicants typically choose to lodge near the airport or train station, but we encourage our guests to enjoy all that New Jersey and nearby New York City have to offer during their visit.

We participate in the National Residency Match Program (NRMP).
