Building the Next Generation of Academic Physicians

Building the Next Generation of Academic Physicians (BNGAP) Chapter at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School
BNGAP at NJMS is a student-run club that stems from the national BNGAP organization. The goal of the club is to raise interest in academic medicine amongst the student body at NJMS and to develop necessary skills for a career in academia. Activities led by the club include lectures, forums, workshops, guest speakers, as well as attendance at national and regional BNGAP conferences.

Attendance
The sessions are open to all medical students from all classes at NJMS interested in the session topic or in academia as a career.

The events have been well received and attendance has reached up to 40 students per event.

Research
Through the student-run club, members are encouraged to start and develop research projects related to academic medicine in general and to diversity in academic medicine specifically.
This past year, students have presented multiple research posters, some were award-winning, submitted manuscripts to and and published in peer-reviewed journals, and led to oral presentations at conferences.
