New Jersey Medical School's mission is the pursuit of excellence in the undergraduate, graduate, postgraduate and continuing education of health professionals and scientists. Through biomedical, psychosocial, clinical and public health research; promotion of disease and prevention; and the delivery of quality health care, New Jersey Medical School seeks to meet the needs of its diverse populations and improve their health and quality of life.

The New Jersey Medical School (NJMS) and the New Jersey Dental School (NJDS) are two of eight health professions schools under the Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), the nation’s largest public university of the health sciences.

New Jersey Medical School's commitment to the education of minorities and disadvantaged students materialized in 1972 with the establishment of the Office of Minority Student Affairs whose primary goal was the development of a competitive minority/disadvantaged applicant pool for careers in medicine and other health professions. In 1992, this office became the Office of Special Programs with a consolidated and invigorated vision of preparing disadvantaged/underrepresented individuals from the pre-college through faculty levels by offering a number of pipeline programs.  In November 2011, the Office of Special Programs was renamed the Office For Diversity and Community Engagement.

Likewise, the New Jersey Dental School has strived to address the needs of the community it serves since its establishment in 1956, launching its first educational outreach program in 1974. NJDS is the only dental school of New Jersey, playing a vital role towards improving the quality of life of all New Jersey residents. Moreover, NJDS is the leading provider of oral health services to New Jersey's underserved population.

Collectively, we share a common vision towards training and developing health professionals that resemble today's diverse population. Given our experience and qualifications we are uniquely positioned to facilitate a supportive environment, wherein undergraduate students have the opportunity to explore career choices within the medical and dental professions while developing the skills necessary for academic success.
