Student Family Health Care Center non-credit elective (Course GSBS 0001Q)

The Student Family Health Care Center is administered through the Department of Family Medicine, in the Behavioral Health Sciences Building, BHSB E1557. The clinical aspect of SFHCC takes place at the Doctors Office Center, DOC 4400. Lectures are in the second year lecture hall (MSB B552).

Sessions are held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:30 pm to roughly 9:00 p.m. At the beginning of clinic, students are encouraged to follow up on previous patient needs. Each case manager student will be assigned a patient during clinic, which they will follow throughout the duration of clinic and provide information on resources including but not limited to referrals to specialist and availability of medications.

To have the elective appear on their GSBS transcript, a student must meet the following requirements:

Attend 3-4 clinic sessions per month

Participate in the ongoing care of one patient for a minimum of three visits or perform a comprehensive chart review

Present a lecture during the large group presentation

Additional responsibilities as determined by current student and case manager directors

To be admitted to the elective, students should respond to a call for applications to participate in the clinic as case managers for the fall term, or contact gsbs.sfhcc@gmail.com for information for starting the application process for the spring semester. When accepted, students should obtain permission from a GSBS advisor and register using a paper registration form, or add/drop form if already registered for other courses. After completing the requirements for the elective, Dr. Easterling will inform the registrar that a grade has been earned (Z=satisfactory), which will appear on the transcript. If requirements are not met, the elective will be removed from the transcript.
