Graduate Degree Programs

1.  PhD Program in Neurosciences;
Rutgers/UMDNJ Integrative Neuroscience Program

Co-Director:  Ellen Townes-Anderson, PhD andersel@njms.rutgers.edu

Co-Director:  Ian Creese, PhD,   creese@axon.rutgers.edu

The program leading to the PhD requires both coursework, culminating in a qualifying exam, and laboratory research, written up as a thesis. Students are required to take a minimum of 40 course credits. Some credits can be obtained as lab research in the form of research rotations. During the second year students choose an advisor and begin to develop their thesis proposal. Most students have at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal by the time of graduation. The average time for obtaining the PhD in our program is 4.9 years, lower than the national average.
