The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has quickly changed our daily lives. Rutgers NJMS and University Hospital are doing everything we can to help during this public health crisis.
As part of our ongoing efforts to help contain the spread of COVID-19 and keep patients healthy, we are now offering video visits with Rutgers NJMS and University Hospital doctors, as an alternative to office visits.

What is a video visit?
A video visit is like an office visit, only instead of traveling to see your doctor, you can video conference with them from your home. Our providers can assess symptoms, make a diagnosis, recommend treatment, and send prescriptions electronically to your pharmacy. Learn more about video visits.
What types of appointments can I schedule as video visits?
Doctor's appointments, visits with a mental health provider, post-operative appointments, are all examples of visits that can be done by video chat. Appointments that require physical examinations, such as annual physicals or annual gynecological appointments, still require an in-person office visit.
How can I schedule a video visit?
Please call the office of the provider you want to schedule an appointment with and request a video or phone visit.
Will my insurance plan cover the cost of a video visit?
Most insurance plans cover video visits, also known as "telehealth visits” and have waived patient co-pays and other financial responsibilities during the COVID-19 health crisis. However, it is important for you to check with the doctor's office to confirm coverage.
What if I need an appointment and I want to see a doctor in-person?
Rutgers NJMS and University Hospital locations are open however to limit your exposure we are taking every precaution to keep our patients and visitors safe and healthy in this changing environment, including modified patient and visitor policies. You can call your doctors office to schedule an in-person visit.
What should I do if I think I have COVID 19?
If you are experiencing symptoms like fever, coughing and shortness of breath the best thing to do is to stay home and call your primary care provider.
