International Applicants - PhD Programs

Thank you for your interest in the Rutgers School of Graduate Studies, Newark Health Science Campus. Please feel free to contact us if you have any specific questions.

The TOEFL is required of all international students who have earned degrees overseas, with a minimum score of 80 being expected. You may be exempt from submitting the TOEFL if you have attended a school in the United States.

Although the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is not required for admission to the Multidisciplinary PhD Program, it can be helpful in evaluating the academic credentials of students who have completed all of their prior education outside of the USA. In addition, we look for evidence of interest and experience in basic research.

Follow the application directions on the Multidisciplinary PhD Program web page in the Prospective Students section. Please note that we cannot preview your credentials or indicate the likelihood of acceptance prior to completion of your application. The application fee is not refundable.

If you will receive your Baccalaureate degree later than June, do not apply for the following September. Visa forms cannot be sent until you have been accepted by the Graduate School and we receive evidence that the degree has been awarded.

Please see separate requirements for applicants to master's programs.
