It is with a great deal of sadness that we advise you of the passing
of
Dr. Fred F. Behrens, Professor and Chair of the Department of
Orthopaedics, New Jersey Medical School.
Dr. Behrens came to the New Jersey Medical School as Professor and
Chair of the newly established Department of Orthopaedics in 1992.
Prior to his appointment here, he was Professor of Orthopaedics at the
Case Western University School of Medicine. Under Dr. Behrens
leadership, our department of Orthopaedics has become one of the
premiere departments in the Northeast. Dr. Behrens established an
expert faculty with subspecialty interests in all the major areas of
orthopaedics, developed a comprehensive residency education and training
program, and initiated a well rounded research laboratory. Dr. Behrens
was highly respected internationally, particularly in the area of
orthopaedic trauma and his studies of the biomechanics of external
fixation.
Dr. Behrens' passing is a grievous loss to the New Jersey Medical
School, and he will be greatly missed.
