Program Objectives

MYLESTONE's objective is to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic among young people by providing education on how HIV, STI's, and Hepatitis are transmitted as well as providing skills to protect against its transmission.

Parent and Caregiver Presentations - Events targeting parents and others who provide care for at risk youth.  These events utilize electronic medic and provide educational information and techniques on why and how parents and others can discuss HIV, AIDS, STD, Hepatitis related issues with their children.

Teen Forum - An annual event held in downtown Newark, which serves high school students from the Greater Newark area, providing a day of "edutainment"  featuring a presentation by POWER, a panel with persons knowledgeable on HIV and other pertinent topics to teens, a Disc Jockey and other performers as well as an open microphone for participants to interact with the presenters.

Community Advisory Board (CAB) - Local high school students who identify topics affecting their peers and create events that will bring awareness to these areas of interest.

MYLESTONE also participates in health and career fairs throughout the year.  MYLESTONE actively engages the community promoting health awareness by serving on the Newark Municipal Council Health Committee and facilitating the Newark Prevention Providers meetings.
