Thank you for your interest in the Vascular Surgery Integrated Residency at Rutgers Health- New Jersey Medical School. Our Integrated Residency Program has been progressing since receiving the initial ACGME accreditation in October 2021.   We currently accept one vascular surgery resident to begin training in July of every year. This is in addition to our already well-established Fellowship program. In the setting of New Jersey's largest academic health system and through the partnership of Rutgers- New Jersey Medical School and RWJBarnabas Health System, we provide the most comprehensive and diverse vascular surgery training program in New Jersey. Our vascular surgery residents rotate through four hospitals, each offering unique training environments.

University Hospital
Newark Beth Israel Medical Center
Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center
Jersey City Medical Center

The didactic curriculum is composed of a weekly Preoperative Case Conference and, on a rotating schedule, monthly Vascular Surgery Morbidity & Mortality, Journal Club, or Core Curriculum Lecture and Vascular Surgery Mock Oral Boards. Trainees at all sites join the weekly mandatory didactic conference in person or virtually. In addition to this protected time, the residents also receive dedicated time to interpret vascular studies in preparation for the Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI) examination.

The Division of Vascular Surgery is also actively involved in a number of clinical trials, including the BEST-CLI and CLOUT, and was the home institution of the completed CREST trial, which was started by Dr. Robert Hobson, II.

We hope this brief overview has given you an idea of the broad-based vascular surgery training available at the New Jersey Medical School. Should you have any questions regarding the program, please do not hesitate to give us a call or send an email.
