Message from the Division Chief, Kaveh Hajifathalian, MD, MPH

Welcome to the Division of Gastroenterology & Advanced Endoscopy at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. Our division is dedicated to delivering outstanding, evidence-based care for patients with a wide spectrum of digestive and liver disorders. With a strong tradition of clinical excellence, we specialize in the diagnosis and treatments such as conditions including colon cancer screening,  GI cancers, liver disease, pancreatobiliary disease, reflux and motility, weight loss endoscopy, IBD, nutritional disorder and other complex gastrointestinal conditions. Our advanced endoscopy program offers state-of-the-art, minimally invasive therapies that reflect the latest in medical innovation.

As a leading academic division, we are equally committed to advancing the science and practice of gastroenterology through rigorous research and exceptional education. Our faculty are actively engaged in both basic science and clinical investigations aimed at improving patient outcomes and shaping the future of digestive health.

We are proud to host one of the largest gastroenterology fellowship programs in New Jersey. Our fellows receive comprehensive training in advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, while also contributing meaningfully to research and education. They emerge as skilled, compassionate physicians ready to lead in academic medicine, private practice, or public service.
