The Division of General Internal Medicine of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School is responsible for delivering healthcare services in an outpatient setting as well as providing community health programs to our patients. Our primary care services include internal medicine, medicine-pediatrics, geriatrics, obesity medicine, and addiction medicine.

Our division places special emphasis on:

  • Monitoring and treatment of chronic disorders
  • Preventive care and health
  • The diagnosis and management of complex internal medical disorders
  • Periodic physical examinations
  • Weight Management
  • Medicine and Pediatric care

The GIM faculty are major contributors to medical students, residents, and fellows’ education in both inpatient and outpatient environments. They serve as preceptors and mentors for our students and hold specific leadership roles in the clerkship program, postgraduate medical education, Primary Care, community programs as well as participation in numerous courses.

Our faculty members are also actively engaged in research and other scholarly activities. These include, cancer screening, cultural issues, health and functioning of patients living with a chronic condition like diabetes and obesity, medical education, and informatics. Our faculty is also actively focused on securing grants to support primary care services, education and training in primary care and preventative medicine, cancer screening, treatment for opioid use disorder, and UME and GME education.
