Paul J. Gaglio, MD FACP, AGAF, FAASLD, Professor of Medicine, is the Division Director of Hepatology and Transplant Hepatology and Medical Director of Liver Transplantation at Rutgers, New Jersey Medical School. He is the former Director of Hepatology Outreach at NY-Presbyterian Hospital, Columbia University Irving Medical Center. He is the former Medical Director of Adult Liver Transplantation at The Montefiore Medical Center, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, and The Tulane University Medical Center. Dr. Gaglio has published multiple manuscripts, book chapters, and abstracts, and has participated in numerous research trials related to the therapy of hepatitis B and C, liver transplantation, and treatment of liver failure. Dr. Gaglio has lectured nationally and internationally on these topics. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases.
His research interests include treatment of hepatitis B and C, the natural history of hepatitis C in liver transplant recipients, and metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease. . He is consistently listed in Castle Connolly Top Doctors; NY Metro Area, Marquis Who’s Who in America, and has received several teaching awards. In 2011, he was named Physician of the Year, NY Chapter of the American Liver Foundation.

Vivek Lingiah, MD

Faculty Profile
Dr. Lingiah joined the faculty of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2014. He currently practices as a Transplant Hepatologist at University Hospital. Dr. Lingiah received his medical degree from St. George’s University School of Medicine in 2009. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore New Rochelle and fellowship in Geriatrics at Montefiore Medical Center. He then completed his fellowship in Hepatology at Rutgers NJMS, where he practiced for a number of years. More recently, Dr. Lingiah completed a fellowship in Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology at Rutgers NJMS. Dr. Lingiah is board certified in Internal Medicine, Geriatrics, and board eligible for Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology. His research and publications focus on acute and acute-on-chronic liver failure, as well as hepatocellular carcinoma.

Dr. Niazi joined the faculty of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2017. He also serves as Director Outpatient Hepatology Services. Dr. Niazi received his medical degree from Punjab Medical College (Pakistan) and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Long Island College Hospital. Additionally, he completed a one-year fellowship in Adult Hepatology at UMDNJ New Jersey Medical School, NJ.
Dr. Niazi is board certified in Internal Medicine. He practices as a general and Transplant Hepatologist at University Hospital.
Zaid Tafesh, MD, MSc

Dr. Tafesh joined the faculty of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School as an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology in 2020. He practices as a Transplant Hepatologist at University Hospital. He also serves as the Assistant Program Director of the Hepatology Fellowship. Dr. Tafesh received his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar in 2013, graduating with academic honors. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine and fellowship in Gastroenterology at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine, where he served as a chief fellow. Additionally, he completed a one-year fellowship in Adult Transplant Hepatology at the Columbia and Weill Cornell campuses of New York Presbyterian Hospital. During his Gastroenterology fellowship, Dr. Tafesh obtained a Masters in Health Policy and Economics from Weill Cornell Graduate School of Medical Sciences.
Dr. Tafesh is board certified in Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Transplant Hepatology. He has received multiple awards and honors including induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society. His research and publications focus on health services and outcomes in the fields of hepatology and liver transplantation.
