Program Director's Welcome

Program Director's Welcome

Dr. Daniel Matassa

Smita Mahendrakar, MD
Program Director

I am Smita Mahendrakar, and it is my pleasure to welcome you to our fellowship program in Nephrology.  I trained as a fellow here before I joined as faculty, so I’m very familiar with life as a fellow at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School.  Our aim is to train fellows to be expert clinicians with a solid understanding of renal physiology and pathophysiology, as well as familiarity with recent research findings that lead to our practice of nephrology constantly evolving.  Our graduates have gone on to careers in academic medicine, both in the region and beyond, as well as private practice around the country.  One of the great strengths of our program is the depth of experience with a diverse range of renal pathology, and I am proud to say that our graduates leave here feeling able to manage whatever patient may come their way.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about our program.
