The hospital autopsy is a tool that establishes the cause of
death, investigates whether the clinical diagnoses and treatment are correct
and educates the pathology resident in normal and abnormal anatomy and histology.
It also serves to highlight for both the clinician and pathology resident the
pathology of numerous disease processes. Autopsies at Rutgers are supervised by a dedicated autopsy pathologist who is
also trained in Forensic Pathology. An autopsy conference by the resident is
given once a month.
