Residency Program Overview

The program, which is housed at two major teaching hospitals, is approved for four years of combined training in anatomic and clinical pathology. New Jersey Medical School’s Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine encourages resident participation in research as well as in clinical service and education. Residents participate in medical student education primarily in gross teaching labs in the first and second year courses and in supervision of rotating students in the third and fourth year courses.

Two years of the program involve training in anatomic pathology at each of our training sites. A forensic pathology elective is offered at the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. Two years of the program involve training in clinical pathology. Details can be obtained on our curriculum site. The AP and CP curricula are integrated over the four years of training. The integrated program, utilizing the particular strengths at each of our sites, exposes the resident to a wide variety of material, expertise, and practice settings.
