New York and New Jersey is definitely home to many social events and attractions. Feel free to peruse the list below for something exciting and fun to do on your day off!

SPORTING

• Football
  • Both the New York Jets and the New York Giants play at MetLife Stadium, just a short 20 minute drive down Route 3 from NJMS.
• Soccer
  • Join your fellow soccer enthusiasts right here in Newark to watch the game at Red Bulls Arena! Celebrate victory in the Ironbound with rodizio and fellow fans.
• Baseball
  • Just a short subway ride away, cheer on the New York Yankees and the New York Mets.
• Basketball
  • Catch the NY Knicks at Madison Square Garden or make a day of watching the Brooklyn Nets at Barclay’s Center.
• Hockey
  • Take a leisurely stroll this winter down Market Street to the Prudential Center to watch our vey own NJ Devils crush their competition at The Rock.
  • Or keep walking down to Penn Station and hop on the Path train to Madison Square Garden, where you can watch the New York Rangers in one of the most iconic sporting venues in the nation.
  • That other New York team, The Islanders, also call the Barclay’s Center home.

MUSIC

• Festivals
  • The New York and New Jersey area are prime for music festivals each Spring and Summer (and Winter for that matter), just to name a few: Jingle Ball, Electric Zoo,Central Park Summer Stage, and Governor's Ball. Check the events happening right here in Newark and New York for a great experience.
• Concerts
  • If a full on festival isn’t up your alley, you can sit in the amphitheater or relax on the lawn as you take in a show at PNC Bank Arts Center; other nearby concert venues include: Madison Square Garden, Barclay’s Center, Jones Beach Theatre and many more!
• NJPAC
  • If you’re looking more to spend some quality time with that significant other or mom you’ve been neglecting, check out a concert at NJPAC.

HOLIDAY EVENTS

• Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade (and balloon inflation)
• Spend the night before Thanksgiving watching the famous Macy’s parade balloons be inflated outside of the Museum of Natural History.
• Christmas Tree Lighting
  • The holiday season officially begins with the annual Christmas tree lighting at Rockerfeller Center.
• SantaCon
• Dress up in your finest jolly red suit at SantaCon December, anywhere in the country!
• New Years
  • Take a trip to Time's Square where you can watch the ball drop at midnight!
• July 4th Fireworks
• The famous Macy’s Fireworks display has been ongoing for 40 years, and somehow gets better each time! Whether from the barges in the East River or the Hudson, there are numerous vantage points to get the best view.

FOOD, FUN, AND GAMES

• Beer Festivals
• Check out many of New Jersey's Beer Festivals such as the Meadowlands Great Beer Expo, Asbury Park Beer Fest, Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival, just to name a few.
• Italian Festivals
  • Love Italian food? Find yourself in Hoboken for the Italian Festival in September, or trek over the NYC for the Feast of San Gennaro.
• Atlantic City
• Need I say more? Shopping, gambling, beaches…essentially New Jersey’s own mini Las Vegas; there are so many things to do in Atlantic City!
• Point Pleasant Boardwalk
• Check out Jenkinson's Boardwalk...an hour south of Newark off the Garden State Parkway (exit 98).
• Hoboken’s Pier 13
• Featuring some of the best food trucks and drinks in the area, Pier 13 is definitely a must go!

FAMILY FUN

• New Jersey Farmer’s Markets
• Many local towns in the area have weekly markets during the summer months to enjoy, click farmer's market to see what's available in your community.
• Six Flags Great Adventure
• Get a season pass or just go for the day and enjoy one of many special events and world famous roller coasters at Six Flags Great Adventure amusement park.
• The Jersey Shore
  • Take a day trip or spend the weekend at Jersey Shore buiding sandcastles on the beach or visiting the many arcades, amusement parks and other family fun attractions!
• Haunted Houses
• During the fall, spend time scaring your kids or friends at Bane Haunted House or if you’re really adventurous, head out to PA for the frightening Eastern State Penitentiary.
• Apple Picking
  • Apple picking and hayrides are a NJ treat! Ort Farms, Demarest Farms and many more farms offer other fruits year round!
