After completing her Bachelors of Dental Surgery (BDS) at Vaidik Dental College and Research Center in Gujarat, India, Maitri Kothari joined the Rutgers Master of Biomedical Science (MBS) program with the goal of becoming a general dentist in the United States. Through hard work and commitment, Maitri brought this goal to fruition. She was accepted at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and will enroll in fall 2023. Maitri attests that all the courses in the master’s program were practical and very useful in her journey to become a dentist. She especially reminisces about Oral immunology as one of her favorite courses. The course's structure and curriculum were exceptionally comprehensive regarding immunological studies. In addition, the teaching method was very friendly and helped students understand challenging topics. She strongly feels that this course will be beneficial in dental school and as a dentist soon after. Maitri adds that all the faculty members are very friendly and always willing to help. She conducted her research rotation under Dr. Virgil Muresan. She interacted with him a lot and learned a lot from him. He was very supportive of her and encouraged her very much to study well and achieve her goals. His attitude towards all students was very gentle and polite, enabling Maitri and all students to learn much more in the lab and in the courses taught by Dr. Muresan. Maitri advises all pre-dental students to take advantage of the opportunities offered through this Master’s program. She encourages students to reach out to the exceptionally qualified faculty, work hard, get good scores, and achieve their goals!
