Public Safety

The Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD) operates multiple fully staffed police headquarters—24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The non-emergency contact number for students on our campus is 973-972-4491. RUPD also provides Public Safety Escorts to students, faculty, and staff upon request. This service cannot be reserved in-advance. The public safety escorts provide primarily walking escort to vehicles, campus residence, or the University's mass transit system. To request a public safety escort, call 732-932-7211 and the RUPD Communication and Dispatch Center will send a public safety representative to escort you.

Emergency Notification System (ENS)

ENS is used at Rutgers University to send emergency text messages to alert subscribed users on their cell phones during situations of emergency as deemed by Public Safety. To learn more and subscribe, please visit the ENS website.

Students become eligible for Rutgers student housing only after they accept the offer of admission. Housing information is communicated to students through their official SGS-Newark email address.
